New Beginnings: Moving Farms and Moving Forward

ree

Life has a way of changing directions without much warning. Recently, things at home went south — a breakup, a restraining order, and suddenly, I found myself needing to move the horses (Cheyenne is a honorary horse) with no notice. It was one of those moments where you just take a deep breath, ask for help, and do what has to be done.

With the help of a borrowed trailer and a dear friend with a truck, we loaded up Breeze, Cheyenne, and Knight — along with what felt like half the barn — and set off toward greener pastures.

When we arrived at the new facility, the horses stepped off the trailer as if they, too, knew it was time for a fresh start. We set up their stalls and began to settle in. Cheyenne and Knight are still sharing a large stall, just like before, while Breeze has his own space. The only change is that Breeze is now in a different barn from the other two. We tried to keep them together, but there weren’t two stalls side-by-side available. Thankfully, they still get turnout time together, which helps everyone adjust.

Knight, who actually lived at this farm once before, seems to have slipped right back into his old routine — as if he never left. Cheyenne, true to her calm and curious nature, made herself comfortable almost instantly. Breeze, on the other hand, is still taking it all in. He’s a thinker, and change takes him a little longer to process. But each day, he’s settling a bit more — a little braver, a little more relaxed.

This move wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. It’s a reminder that sometimes, starting over isn’t a choice — it’s survival. And from that, something beautiful can grow.

Here’s to brighter futures, peaceful barns, and the courage it takes to begin again.
